Axis Mundi
Axis Mundi
2008

At this time in my practice, I was frequenting a salvage yard, full of classic automobiles getting parted out. A gunshot hole, here, a sideswipe there...if these cars could talk, oh, the stories they would tell. Now, there is grass growing up through them, and spiders making their homes, as nature silently reclaims them.

Walking amongst these automobiles, felt full of spiritual communication, to me, hense I named it Axis Mundi. The axis mundi in certain beliefs, is the world center, or the connection between Heaven and Earth. Communications from lower realms may ascend to higher ones and blessings from higher realms may descend to lower ones and be disseminated to all. The spot functions as the omphalos (navel), the world's point of beginning.

This is a painting of the rear left panel of a 1968 Plymouth. It was also the beginning of my investigation into entropy and how to express it via painting.
